Health is not simply the absence of sickness – Hannah Green

We tend to think if we aren’t sick, then we area healthy- I would argue that there is a big difference between not sick and thriving! If I was to ask you if you felt like you were thriving would you be able to honestly answer yes?

If your answer was no- maybe you are experiencing some physical pain? Or maybe it is more emotional upheaval and a lot of stress?
You may be surprised at just what acupuncture can do to help you go from “not sick” to thriving!

Or maybe you ARE sick, and you would love to get back in balance- then acupuncture is a great option for you too.

What’s going on for you?
Not quite sure why you aren’t thriving despite everything you try?
It is so frustrating when everything “seems” to be ok, but you know within yourself that something is up, especially when all tests are coming back as normal.
The good news? Traditional Chinese Medicine (which acupuncture is a part of) looks at the body in a totally new way. It may seem odd at first, but the more you explore it the more it just… kind of … makes… sense!

I love to draw on many of the different techniques and styles I have learnt over the last 15 years, helping your body to come back into balance.
I am often able to interpret the symptoms and issues that you have been feeling that are like little warning lights for your body- telling you that something is off. I love to help you decode these symptoms so that you can deal with the problem (rather than just switching off the warning light).

Acupuncture makes use of the body’s energy (variously called chi, qi, or ki) within the constructs of traditional Chinese medicine. It acknowledges the whole nature of a person (physical & energetic, emotional & spiritual,  nutritional & seasonal) It takes into account different relationships and cycles that operate within the system.
Traditionally acupuncture can be fantastic not just for helping a body that is feeling “off” (sick) but also for maintaining a healthy body to prevent the sickness in the first place. An acupuncturists true role traditionally is to promote a well body and encourage health rather than healing the already sick (however this is possible as well!).
You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own health, and to promote your own well being. This may include diet, lifestyle or exercise advice, while it is tempting to want someone else to “fix” you, often unless you address the underlying contributing factors your issue will continue to appear.
Acupuncture is commonly seen as the insertion of fine filiform needles into the body at specific points, however this is just one aspect to an acupuncture treatment. I often use a variety of other techniques that I have learnt over the years and incorporate them into your session. These may be moxibustion, massage, gua sha, cupping, or electro acupuncture. Please visit the Treatment Methods page to see a full list of the different techniques I use in treatments.
Over the years I have studied many different styles of acupuncture that all have slightly different approaches and treatment styles.
The best bit for you is that you benefit from my sensitivity (I really don’t like strong needling), as I now primarily use techniques where you can barely feel the needles, but you are able to notice changes during a treatment.
In a session you can expect to also discuss lifestyle advice, as well as other changes that are relevant to you and your current issue.
You may also want to have a read of the blog post Needles- A Prickly Subject? to gain a better understanding of the difference between hypodermic and acupuncture needles.

Acupuncture traditionally is all about bringing the body back into balance and maintaining a sense of wellbeing- helping you to get to thriving, not just surviving.
